The Celebrity Spot: Minka Kelly & Chewy
OK, maybe I’m just out of the loop, but how many of you knew that Minka Kelly is the daughter of former Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufay? In addition to being the progeny of a rock star, Minka is also a serious dog lover, and has called her cockapoo, Chewy, the “love of my life.” We love that, because we feel the same way about our pups, right? And that is precisely why, as well as that they are celebs, Minka Kelly & Chewy are our subjects today on The Celebrity Spot.

Minka Kelly, before making it big, worked a variety of jobs, both in and out of entertainment. She was a surgical technician, played Adam Levine’s leading lady in the Maroon 5 video for “One More Night,” and played Lyla Garrity on Friday Night Lights, the role that made her famous. She’s currently starring as human (as opposed to robot) cop, Valerie Stahl, in the new J.J. Abrams television series, Almost Human. Let me just say here, that my husband and I love Almost Human. It’s got all of the action, sci-fi gadgetry, smart dialogue, great writing and characters of the best of J.J. Abrams. However, my daughter and I are big J.J. fans; we also loved his shows Felicity, Alias and Fringe. But I digress…
Kelly takes Chewy everywhere. Pictures of her at LAX coming or going are with Chewy, with Chewy at the park, at the market, on walks. Minka has said, “I can’t get enough of this wookie!” referring to the fact that she was named for the Star Wars lovable and very hairy creature, Chewbacca.

Minka and Chewy seem to live the quintessential L.A. life; running together in Treepeople Park, hanging out in Beverly Hills, shopping at LA Dog Works, or just sitting under a tree in the park with friends. She’s taught Chewy to play dead on command. Check it out. And she dresses Chewy in really adorable accessories, like this pink pearl necklace/collar. You always see Chewy smiling, so Minka is doing something right to have such a happy pup!

Kelly’s next project, due for release this year, will be alongside Haley Joel Osment in The World Made Straight, about a rural Appalachian community
