I don’t usually cover food or treats on Bark & Swagger, but am making an exception for this cool, cruelty-free LoCal apple pumpkin jerky…yum! It’s been fun passing along tips on how to make something for our pups, with love from our own hands. And, during this time of year when spending runs higher, it’s nice to have some do-it-yourself tricks up our sleeves, right? Let’s get to our next in my DIY Holiday Gifts for Your Dog Series.
If my Jasper is any indication, doggies LOVE apples and pumpkin! It must run in the family, too, because his cousin, Pepper, has been enjoying a half apple every night for most of his 12 years, and Pep’s doing great! What a perfect way to treat our babies this time of year. If you have extra apples and pumpkin on hand, you can make some easy low calorie Apple Pumpkin Jerky treats and tuck them into your dog’s holiday stocking. What a great surprise!
The treats can be made in either the oven or a dehydrator, a handy appliance to have. All you’ll need are canned or pureed fresh apples (fresh is preferred, but not necessary), and pumpkin. Sounds simple, right?
And, they are very healthy, and very low in fat and calories, so giving them a few extras won’t pack on the pounds. Yay!
Leslie, from the site, Raise A Green Dog, has shared her own recipe for this delicious snack here.
As with all our DIY tips in this Holiday series, the information is brought to us by Earth Heart, the wonderful brand, making medicinal aromatherapy spray mists for dogs. I recommend Canine Calm for the holidays and beyond, for helping to keep your pup stress-free around the hustle and bustle of this time of year.
