It was all about the total package for the Paw Vogue Fashionista 2014 Contest. And, for us judges – myself, FidoseofReality’s Carol Bryant and News 12, Connecticut’s Lauren Collier – it was also about the Meow-wow factor. The undisputed feline diva, Coco the Couture Cat, trotted off with an across-the-board sweep to take the top honor.
In her submission picture, mom Teri Thorsteinson dressed her in a statement gown designed by Lola Teigland. The dress was siren red, perfect for the kitty with attitude, who doesn’t get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day (oh, wait, that was supermodel, Linda Evangelista). For Coco, it’s public adoration and the opportunity to use her fierce fashion sense to do good that gets her going. Coco is a supporter of organizations that help less fortunate kitties, like Black & Orange Cat Foundation, Blind Cat Rescue, Brigid’s Crossing Holistic Cat Sanctuary, Dorian Wagner – The Santa Paws Drive, Hermitage Cat Shelter, Kitten Associates – A New Breed of Cat Rescue and Riverfront Cats, Downtown Miami.
Lola Teigland, of LOLA Canine Couture, is a designer with a cause of her own. Lola began in women’s fashion, working for Albert Nippon and Christian Dior. After a segway into acting in theater and television, she returned to her fashion roots with the goal of bringing high quality design to pups and drawing attention to the plight of shelter dogs.
Coco is wearing Lola’s Christmas Red Dog Tutu, featuring a novelty knit bodice, a tulle skirt and a large charmeuse bow. Teri had Coco photographed in a vintage Christmas setting, which showcased the fashion so well. Coco’s fierce attitude and the uncompromising way she wears fashion was the winning combination for this judge!
Wishing a big congratulations to Coco and Lola, and a fabulously fashionable reign!
