Crisp, clean air; majestic, snow-covered peaks; glasses of wine by a warm, crackling fire…sounds nice and cozy, right? If you’re planning a cold weather getaway with your pup, you’ll need some tips to make sure he or she is safe, toasty and stylish. Look no further! 🙂 Check out all you’ll need to know right here, in my travel resort wear for your dog must haves part II, the tundra. This is going to be fun!
You’re going to find options here that will work for the flash of Aspen or the more subdued but practical fashion in a small skiing town. We’ll look at coats, sweaters/fleeces, booties, PJ’s, goggles/sunglasses and more. And these days, none of us have a lot of time to spare. So, let’s get started!
Coats
If you’re heading to Aspen, Vail or the slopes of Courchevel, your pup will fit right in with this luxury Couture by Sophie metallic gold PVC and faux fur-collared puffer. Called The Whitney for its inspiration, Whitney Houston, the coat is completely made of high quality, cruelty-free materials. It is lined in pottery-orange Ultrasuede and insulated with a poly batting for extra protection from the cold. Gold turnkey clasps complete the look. And while your dog is looking fabulous, you’ll feel good knowing that 10% of the price of each coat is going to benefit the American Humane Association, the only animal charity that advocates for both children and animals. Hand wash cool water. Lay flat to dry, then fluff out collar.

This is another beautiful puffer coat at home in a posh ski resort. Made by high end dog apparel designer Louisdog, I love the gorgeous and very flattering shade of navy, the high neck design and Thinsulate padding for extra warmth and the very feminine trim and removable twin ribbons with Swarovski crystal embellishment. Snap buttons make for easy on and off. Hand wash cool water and lay flat to dry.

This is a very versatile dog parka, in that it fits in anywhere and looks great. The neon yellow color is an attention grabber, yes, however the coat also comes in a cherry red or a slate grey with red trim, also great looking. The slim, flattering design is part of the reason this coat looks so good. The hood is removable and there are reflective strips along the shoulders and sides, a nice feature that also adds to the safety of the coat. A functional back pocket to throw in a couple of poop bags and a leash hole for a harness and you’re all set to take on the world! And this coat comes in big dog sizes!

I’m going to add something extra here as, from my own experience, I find that Ruffwear products lend themselves to those who have active dogs, are willing to spend a bit more on
their apparel, but want the quality, long lasting style and durability that Ruffwear offers. As I’ve mentioned in other posts, Sophie wears Ruffwear and has the same coat since she was an almost full grown puppy. The K-9 Overcoat is a great for dogs large and small. It’s made with the harsh outdoors in mind and will protect your dog from the cold and wind. It comes in this lovely shade of green as well as a red currant, which is also good looking. Made from sturdy, durable materials with a fleece inner lining to keep body warmth in, this jacket also has auto-lock buckles on either side for easy on easy off. This is a piece you will have for years and never goes out of fashion. Ruffwear make this coat in sizes fitting a wide range of dogs, from a 13″ to a 42″ girth.

Booties
Snow and the salt thrown on to melt it are very damaging to our dog’s paw pads. The snow can clump in between the pads and make it uncomfortable to move. If you’ve ever seen your dog walk over wet salt and quickly lift up their paws and start limping, it’s because the salt burns. So if you’re going to be vacationing where there’s likely to be snow, it’s a good idea to have a pair of protective boots for your dog to wear, just in case. And I think it might be helpful to match the boots I like here with the coats I’ve recommended above, so you can buy outfits, if you want.
This is a nice match for The Whitney gold coat and in a leopard print, is very stylish and on trend this season. Made from a quality, durable PU leather material with a thermoplastic sole, it provides more flexibility, comfort and protection for your pup’s paws. The front zippers make for easy on and off and the velcro band ensures a good fit and no slipping. I like the rubber tread on the front of each boot. You know how we always scuff the toe of our boots just walking around? Well, this tread protects the boots from front scuffing and protects your dog’s paws when walking on rough pavement. And, they’re a good buy at $20.00. For sizing, you measure the length and width of your dog’s paw pads and, if it’s a borderline size, I’d opt for the larger one.

These great-looking, luxury hi-tops match the pale pink ribbon on the blue Louisdog parka above. These booties offer ventilation via the tiny holes and offer cushioned comfort along the top of the boot. A sturdy sole that is ergonomically shaped to the dog’s paw makes sure it’s easy to walk and play in. Front zipper and velcro strap for a good fit.

These cozy boots will be warm and very comfortable for your pooch. They go with all the colors offered for the Dashing Dog Parka. And they also come in red, which would also work with the parka. Made from ultra suede, canvas and a soft faux fur lining, they are very versatile and practical for snow or rain. Sweaters/Fleeces
When the warm coat and boots come off and you’re settling down in front of the fire for that welcomed glass of wine or cider, your doggy may curl up next to you for some cuddles and warmth. You’ll probably have a sweater on, especially if your room doesn’t have a fireplace, and your dog, especially the little ones, will need something, too. Here’s where some light sweaters and fleeces will do the trick. I like these.
To me, this says ski lodge. In a warm brown with beautiful accent colors, the Navajo print is, at once. rustic and chic. This wool sweater was made following the Fair Trade guidelines and is hand made, so each one may vary slightly in color and style. It comes in a wide range of sizes, too, so little ones and big ones can wear. Isn’t that nice, too, because it’s not that easy finding great big dog clothing. Would love to hear your thoughts about that.

The interesting thing about these sweaters is that 76% of the cotton they’re made from comes from reclaimed fabric. These scraps are derived from table cuttings left over from making other garments. Its like the table scraps that you feel guilty about throwing away because you’re wasting food. These cutting table scraps are cleaned, separated by color into raw fibers and then spun into a lovely and cozy yarn. The Reknitz sweaters come in a variety of solid and striped color combinations, are warm and fit dogs with a 12″ to a 24″ long back.

I really like this product because it’s green, vegan and chemical free. With complete UVA and UVB physical block, the healthier uncoated nano zinc oxide, this formula will not clog pores and is totally non-toxic. And, it has really nice ingredients like shea butter, avocado oil, carrot seed oil, black cumin oil, an essential oil blend and purified water. Very moisturizing. In Summary
You know your pooch will travel in style, warmth and comfort, and be protected from the elements. What’s left? Figuring out what you’ll want to wear! I do recommend researching the following for peace of mind while you’re vacationing:
- a good pet sitting service recommended by your hotel, and with references, for while you’re on the slopes or out to eat
- a recommended veterinarian in the area
- dog store(s) for a fun outing for your pup
I’d also bring a basic first aid kit. And, remember to bring water with you on your outings to hydrate your dog.
Safe and happy travels! I want to hear from you, so please send comments about this article, likes, dislikes and what you’d want to see more of.
Until next time…
