The Celebrity Spot: Amanda Seyfried’s Dog Finn Does Dueling Cannons with Justin Long-at Bark and Swagger

Celebrities, They’re Just Like Us! You’ve seen that silly title in the weeklies, and trite as it is because, of course celebs go food shopping, work out and take their kids to the park, what I do love are the great twitter postings and photos celebs take of their dogs. They’re filled with funny stories and musings that are all about love. Love for their dogs, that is! So for my debut The Celebrity Spot post, we have a double scoop of fun. One scoop of fierce fido, Finn Seyfried, the love of his mom, actress Amanda Seyfried and her boyfriend and fellow Finn admirer, Justin Long, having a Finn moment. The second, bonus scoop, is of J. Lo and her adorable boxer, Roxy in a cute chance encounter story.

Amanda and Justin have been dating since early summer and Justin seems to have become just as smitten with Finn, Seyfried’s beautiful Australian Shepherd. Finn is now a celebrity  in his own right, with a Twitter account (@Finn_Seyfried), boasting over 11,000 followers. He even made a recent appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman with his mom, where he showcased one of his many talents, balancing a cooked hamburger with bun on his head. What a star! You can see it for yourself here.

Justin and Amanda tweet about Finn’s adventures and Finn tweets words of wisdom called Finnspirations. You gotta love this. The photo I chose is of Finn and Justin on side-by-side cannons. It’s really cute and impressive how this dog just sits there and knows what he’s supposed to do. Australian Shepherds are supposedly one of the smartest breeds and, with Finn, you can see why.

J. Lo’s little boxer girl, Roxy, joined their grown Boxer, Bear as the new member of the family last spring. Roxy had a chance encounter that showed her mom is AOK in my book. Roxy was playing on the beach in East Hampton last summer with her mom, J. Lo’s boyfriend, Casper and a friend when a little Havanese came running up, startling the group. That little girl, Holly, is my friend N’s dog. N recognized the group right away and was concerned that Holly might have disturbed them. But kudos to J. Lo, she took it all in stride, the pups romped for a moment and then J. Lo, Casper and group went back to talking and Roxy went about her business. Sometimes, celebs can be kind of normal, even though it must be difficult because you never know what people might want from you or do to you. I can tell you, in my former life as an entertainment publicist dealing with stars, I’ve seen it all, and people will go to incredible and dangerous lengths to get close to a celebrity crush. I, for one, am happy to be a non-famous person.

In The Celebrity Spot, I’m more interested in the dogs of celebrities than the celebs themselves. The dogs are down to earth, infinitely interesting and will always put in a great performance, even just being themselves.

If you’re interested in more on celebrities and their dogs, there’s a great Kindle or coffee table book on Amazon by celebrated photographer Brian Nice called Rescue Tails: Portraits of Dogs and their Celebrities. Nice, in 150 beautiful portraits, captures the unbreakable bond between notable celebs and the special dogs they love.  Brian does a good job of capturing his subjects in a relaxed, even goofy, way, and each portrait is accompanied by a memorable quote.

Brian Nice’s own pug, Buster, whose enchanting photo graces the cover, is the inspiration for the book. After Buster was saved from blindness by a doctor recommended by the Humane Society of New York, Brian wanted to do something in return. This book is a special gift of thanks to them, and the author’s proceeds will go to benefit both the Humane Society of New York and Much Love Animal Rescue in Los Angeles, both no-kill animal shelters.

With an introduction by Beth Ostrosky Stern, this makes a great gift for dog lovers or addition to your coffee table book collection.
