A picture can paint a thousand words, but what if that picture was a painting of your furry best friend? Even more special, right? There is a very cool brand offering digital or acrylic hand painted pet portraits that are affordable and we love them! Here’s why.
We discovered My Pooch Face early on and reconnected with them at a pet conference. The timing was right and we loved what they were doing. My Pooch Face makes commissioned art easy and we appreciate the options to have a portrait done our way, suited to our taste.
Remember the days of multiple portrait sittings? So gone! We chose a picture we liked of our Jasper, emailed it to My Pooch Face and, voila!, a couple of weeks later we received a beautiful early holiday present. The brand gifted us Jasper’s portrait, which is now hanging in our living room, but purchasing a portrait on their site is just as easy. They walk you through each of four steps.
Jasper and I were so excited when the box arrived, we even took a video of the opening ceremony! When I say Jasper was as excited as me, what I meant was, he was excited until he saw there were no treats, bully sticks or plush balls in the box.
But, mom was excited enough for the two of us and Jasper was full of wonder, as you’ll see. The portrait was indeed beautiful, and each comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, just like any valuable piece of art. Check out the video here (spoiler alert: mom is a bit of a dork 🙂 ).
Sure, there are others who do digital portraits of your pet. But here, you can choose a digital or acrylic option and get a commissioned work at a fraction of the cost you’d usually pay. Commissioned art of our pets just became affordable! Bark & Swagger became a brand ambassador for My Pooch Face to spread that message.
How does it all come together?
Like I said, it’s easy. There are four steps.
- Choose your pet type
- Pick a medium – digital or acrylic
- Select a size and style. There are 4 sizes of digital and 6 sizes of acrylic to choose from, as well as 3 styles, depending on how colorful you want the portrait to be: Granola (the least amount of color), Happy and Hippie (the most).
- Upload a photo.
I thought the process of creating a masterpiece of your pet was interesting; maybe you will, too.
The acrylic painting process:
The process begins with learning about each pet’s unique personality and characteristics, a critical part of making each portrait truly unique to your pet.
First, a coat of gesso is applied to a museum quality canvas to prime it for painting. An initial sketch is made in pencil of the shape and outline of your pooch’s face.
Using the information in the pet profile and the reference photo provided, the artist meticulously hand paints your pet with acrylic paint. He uses his skill and technique to recreate your pet’s image with accuracy. Just take a look at some of the examples in this post, as well as Jasper’s original photo and his portrait.
The eyes and nose receive special detailed care. We know how much soul is displayed in our pup’s eyes, right?
The portrait is given time to air dry.
Hardware is installed to the back of the canvas so that it is ready to hang when it arrives.
The portrait is carefully cleaned to remove any imperfections.
Each painting is then finished with two coats of an archival satin varnish that will keep it looking beautiful for years to come.
Then, the portrait is wrapped in a protective sleeve, boxed up in the Our Pooch Packaging, and off it goes to you!
The digital process:
Much like the acrylic portrait process, this process begins with a thorough review of each pet’s profile to gain a better understanding of their defining traits and personality.
With professional software like Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter, their digital pet artists are able to recreate the look and feel of a traditional painting.
The digital pet artist hand-paints the image with a stylus and tablet or paints directly onto the monitor using the same process and techniques they would use with a canvas and paintbrush. They just don’t have to wait for it to dry. Isn’t that cool?!
To bring the digital portrait to life, they print it on the highest museum quality etching paper. It has a textured surface similar to that of a fine art watercolor paper. The resulting image has rich, vibrant colors and a beautiful matte finish.
The portrait is mounted to a 1 inch standout display with a black edging that makes the portrait pop.
So, what do you have to lose to surprise someone you care about with a thoughtful gift or to give yourself a present you can cherish and enjoy for years? Nothing! Try it; I think you’ll like. To order, just click on the banner just below.
