There’s something about a cape. From yesteryear’s arbiter of chic, Jackie O., to today’s celebrity style icons Gigi, Alexa and Lupita, capes are here to stay. They’re represented on carpets and runways in dresses, gowns and coats, and designer dog fashion, which takes its cue from the hottest trends, has responded.
There’s one designer in particular, who I think is doing it well, offering cape coats for cruising with panache and style. I’ve written about her brand before for their Comfy Wraps harnesses I love.
Heavenly Beasts®, the boutique label out of Chicago, is my choice, by far, for the chic cape for dogs. That’s why I chose them for my Boutique and why I’m sharing them with you. Owner and head designer, Laura Keivan, has explored bold patterns, pops of color, fine detailing and luxurious fabrics for her cashmere capes. And, I love the generous collar that is oh-so-glamorous!
And, these capes come with a bonus! They are designed with a harness underneath that swaddles your dog and a brass charm dangle, housing an aromatherapy cloud, both of which calm the savage beasties.
You may think, ok, it’s cashmere, it’s a luxe brand…these capes will cost a pretty penny. Seriously, they are reasonable considering the quality of the materials, workmanship (made right in Chicago) and design detailing.
Her wool capes start at $150; beautiful, stylish and warm. Cashmeres start at $154.00 and go to $229.00, featuring wonderful velvet trim, tulle rosettes or Belgium Lace.
I’ve seen and felt them and fell in love! I told Laura the other day, one of the things I miss most about living in New York is that my dogs can’t wear winter clothing like this. A major frustration for a fashion-loving girl!
There are cold months ahead, dog parents! Urban dwellers, the cape coat is a natural to look sharp in the city. Country dwellers, a well-made cape is as practical as it is timeless (can’t you just see with a pair of Welly Boots?).
And, if capes turn you on, I’d definitely recommend checking out Heavenly Beasts® Couture Capes, now right here in the Bark & Swagger Boutique. New styles (see the gorgeous leopard with lapis velvet trim and the grey cashmere with tulle rosettes).
Don’t let Emma, Kelly, Kate or Coco have anything on your pup!
