Fashion for all Shapes & Sizes – French and English Bulldog Clothing & Accessories
If you’re neck’s a bit thick and your thighs are kinda wide, your chest is big and your legs are short, don’t worry. You might just be a bulldog. Much beloved, but often unserved in the pet fashion business. I’m as guilty as the others. I haven’t designed for the bully’s at Couture by Sophie. My sample models are both small dogs. Sophie’s a skinny minny, and Jasper’s wider, but still small. I did have an experience recently that made me think about creating French and English Bulldog clothing. A friend from The Elegant Hare made a beautiful sweater for Jasper, and because of his wide shoulders and leg stance, it was too tight. So, today on my Fashion for all Shapes & Sizes Series, I’ve sourced some beautiful fashion pieces that work for the bulldogs among us. Let’s have a look.

Joey’s Coats

I came across this artist on Etsy and love her designs. Her name is Robin Bridgman and she has the most fantastic sense of color and style. If you own a French Bulldog, you must check out her shop, JoeysCoats. All of her pieces are made to order, although she does have some existing pieces, like this one, that she’s selling. There are so many gorgeous coats, made lovingly all by hand – true couture – but I chose this one, which she calls Simply Silk, because I love the muted, yet vibrant color. Robin uses vintage materials on this coat, including Silk Satin, Cotton Pad, Cotton Ikat, Silk Jacquard, Silk Thread and Celluloid. She describes her inspiration for using this patterned silk as being “reminiscent of art and architecture from the Cubist period.” Bridgman’s artistic sensibilities are all over these very special coats. Here’s her description of what goes into this coat: “The body of the coat is lightly padded, lined with cotton Ikat and bound with silk jacquard. The belt is made up in a cotton velvet. The belt loops and trim are velvet ribbon. The ornate Celluloid buckle is lovely. The buttonhole is hand-stitched using silk thread. The fabulous Celluloid buttons are secured with back buttons to allow for movement. A beautiful glow bubble Celluloid button tops off this little coat.” Exploring her shop was a real treat!

Summary
I have to say I truly enjoyed hunting for cute and beautiful fashion for bulldogs! I’ve discovered some new styles and designers, and hopefully brought some options to Bully pet parents, who often tell me there’s just nothing out there.
