Pittie 2020: The Initiative Helping to Change the Way the World Views Pit Bulls, One Lens at a Time
One of my favorite organizations bringing awareness to the importance of rescue and celebrating rescues is Project Blue Collar (PBC). They, along with Fetch Eyewear and Jolly Pets, have just launched something pretty great. Pittie2020 is a five-year social media photo campaign, featuring pit bulls wearing glasses. Why glasses? “We’re playing upon both the year “2020” and the term “20/20,” as an effort to get people to “clear their vision” of pit bulls and see them for the lovable, goofy dogs they are,” explained Carole Feeny, co-founder along with Kristin Waters.
Pittie2020 will collect and feature pictures of all types of pit bulls wearing glasses, taking the perceived onus off of them as a breed. By tagging the photos with #Pittie2020, the campaign will include a monthly photo contest in which the winner receives a $125 gift certificate from Fetch Eyewear and a $25 gift certificate from Project Blue Collar. Fetch is this very cool human eye wear brand whose founder, Ann Sacks, created the company to ultimately provide longterm funding for animal welfare. We love that! And, a donation of toys from Jolly Pets (minimum of $150 value) and 20% of the sales from campaign link (www.pittie2020.com) will go to a pit bull rescue of the winner’s choice. Pit bull parents, advocates, and animal rescue organizations are urged to be a part of the contest and the overall initiative. No purchase is necessary to enter.
This is a total win-win, so please don’t hesitate and join in to spread the love for the Pittie. Over the centuries, the Pit Bull Terrier was bred as a family dog, gentle and sweet enough to hang with babies. Most of the time, it’s human handlers who ruin dogs, so remember to please keep an open mind. Go on your social media, grab one of these great Pittie2020 photos and don’t forget to #Pittie2020, so we can grow the movement!
More from Carole & Kristin: “We came up with the idea because we need more people to have a shared vision of what wonderful dogs pit bulls truly are. We want to encourage people to show pit bulls in happy, goofy ways because we feel that humor and levity can open people to learning more about this often-misunderstood breed. We are exhausted by the discrimination faced by pit bulls and their responsible owners, so we wanted to use our reach to send a positive message about them. We’re honored to partner with companies like Fetch Eyewear and Jolly Pets in an effort to advocate for pit bulls.”
Longterm Goals of Pittie2020
Long term goals of the #Pittie2020 campaign include branded merchandise benefitting pit bull rescues, an educational portal featuring links and resources about pit bulls, and expanded partnerships with companies and non-profits who are pit bull advocates.
