Dog-Friendly Houses? Taylor Morrison is Building Them!

We spend a lot of time making our homes dog friendly. But, what if we could buy already dog-friendly houses? Leading national homebuilder and developer, Taylor Morrison, is doing just that, and with some really lovely results. And, they’ve listened to pet parents like us, when choosing what to include.

I caught up with Jim Ellison, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Taylor Morrison Houston, who gave me the scoop on these brand new design options to share with you! And, what I love is they build all kinds of homes from small to large, from less expensive to more. We have a choice!

I wanted to know what made them decide to design a pet-friendly home, because no one I know of is doing that. “We believe that pets are an important part of people’s lives,” Jim explained. “We understand that homeowners want to pamper their pets, as much as they do their loved ones, and our new pet-friendly options give pet-owners a chance to do just that.”

Jim speaks from the heart. He’s a dog dad to black Lab, Bo. “Dogs have always been a part of my family for the majority of my life, so I understand the importance of incorporating your pet’s needs into the home,” he shared.  “Bo is definitely an important member of the family. The children in our neighborhood love him and he’s all-around great dog!

“We want our home to be just as comfortable for him as it is for us. Including pet-friendly features in Taylor Morrison homes comes from that mindset.”

What, exactly,  makes it pet friendly? The model, called The Bevington, features indoor options like a built-in pet washing station in a tucked-away location, so it’s discreet but so useful, every time your dog gets into something or its nasty outside. I kept thinking about the number of times a day we have to pull out the hose to wash Sophie down, after she’s taken a swim in the pool. Much like a professional dog grooming station, it’s a luxury pet-washing that takes height for pet owners into consideration, too, so it’s comfortable, and it comes complete with glass doors and a corded shower head, as well as its own storage area. I love that!

The Bevington is a two-story model, with a very spacious floor plan. It has a gourmet kitchen and breakfast nook, an open-concept family room, a formal dining room with butler pantry, a formal living room or study, and a first-floor master bedroom retreat with a master bathroom and expansive walk-in closet. Did you catch that adorable paw print wall paper design?

But, what if The Bevington isn’t exactly what you need for your fur family? It can be customized, with Taylor Morrison offering some features you can select to fit the needs of your lifestyle. And, Taylor Morrison, who’ve been around for over 100 years, designs different styles of homes all over the country, so you can find an option that works for you. Because the pet-friendly features are optional, they do cost extra.

Want to see the cutest thing? The Bevington model home comes with a miniature replica dog house, built for the uber pampered pet, complete with a grand entry and spacious interior. I caught Sophie, our resident princess pup, eyeing it over my shoulder. Uh oh…

While most developers can build out pet-friendly options if the customer knows what they want and is willing to pay the price, it’s nice to know there’s a national builder/developer with a history, that has taken the initiative to do it on their own, just because they know how much we love our babies.  “We recognize that pets are an important part of people’s lives all across the board, no matter the buyer’s age, lifestyle or location,” Ellison emphasized. “We want to show our customers that their pets are as important to us as they are to them.” ‘Nuff said.
