One of the Best Indestructible Dog Toys: The Zoey Challenge

ZOEY

What dogs possess one of the most powerful jaws? That would be the Pitbull mix. So, what more perfect candidate to test out the toughness of a toy, especially if the company boasts a lifetime guarantee for the collection? Beco Pets, a top British eco pet product company, says, if Fido destroys one of these toys, he gets his money back. Now, that’s a challenge we had to take, and Zoey, our rescued Pittie, had her name written all over this one.

Zoey is a healthy, very sweet, full of personality senior Pitbull mix we pulled from a kill shelter in Broward County, Florida. She was left with a sibling to starve to death in a house after the people moved away. When she was discovered, she weighed only 30 lbs. We found a good place for her to stay, helped rehabilitate Zoey and she is now looking for her forever home.

We call her Bat Dog, because when Zoey smiles, her teeth, rendered uneven and sharp from probably chewing on crate bars in her former home, look bat like (along with those adorable ears) and are totally lethal. Zoey never met a toy she couldn’t destroy, relished destroying, usually in less than 5 minutes.

I’ll never forget walking her through the aisles at Petsmart, letting her choose one of the Tuffy Toys, giving it to her to hold, and before we reached the register, it was destroyed. We paid for it as I asked them to throw it away.

So, when Beco Pets’ co-founder and Sales Director, George Bramble, was kind enough to gift us one of their Beco Bones (in pretty pink, of course), I told them we were going to put it to the Zoey test.

Before I tell you what happened, just a little info on what toys are included in this Destroyers collection. There’s a good variety: Beco Balls, Beco Bones, Beco Hoops, the Beco Ball on Rope and the Beco Flyer.

Here’s Zoey working on the Beco Bone to maintain her high destroyer standards.

And, a video of her in action:

So, was she successful? Actually, Zoey didn’t destroy it. But, even if she would have picked out a couple of small pieces of the toy, it’s not worrisome. These toys are made from natural rubber from a rubber plant, containing ethically sourced rick husk, which is a bi-product of rice farming. As well as being biodegradable, it’s also BPA and Phylaphate free. I’ll let you know if that ends up happening.

Here’s a picture of the Beco Bone after a couple of weeks of play.

While no toy is truly indestructible, I was impressed with the durability of this one. It now joins the very small ranks of toys we’ve found that Zoey hasn’t destroyed. Actually, its a group of two; the only other one thus far has been the Bionic Stick, another great toy for heavy chewers.

Stay tuned for our review of the Beco Bowl, a collapsible travel bowl in three sizes and three cool spring colors in an upcoming Summer Essentials post.
