Vogue’s Fashion Trends for Fall & How To Interpret for Our Dogs

What’s news for fashion this fall? According to the bible, Vogue, updates on existing fashion is the takeaway, but the creativity in how they’re modernized is the story. Here are some of Vogue’s top fashion trends for Fall 2016. Pet designers, can you see ways to incorporate into your collections?

Sweet Spots

Leopard never went away, it just got more daring. Dappled, elongated and colored, with coats worn with everything from shorts and lightweight cropped pants to ankle socks.

How to interpret for our dogs:  Pet couturier, Anthony Rubio, did a great job. His models, Bogie and Kimba, look chic and very on trend.

Candy Crush

Pastels were popping this spring. For pre-Fall, they take on an edgy look. I love this bright, rich lilac, but pale pinks like Rose Quartz, squeezing out the last ounce of fabulousness as one of the Pantone colors of 2016, Serenity Blue, the other Pantone 2016 choice, lemon and cornflower blue are other shades that are trending.

How to interpret for our dogs: Go for pastels that pop or shine. This Couture by Sophie one of a kind, quilted, cruelty-free coat is inspired by the simple elegance of Chanel. The soft, faux leather fabric is a pearlized Rose Quartz.

Give ‘Em The Slip

Slips for day or evening made a comeback last year. I remember shopping awesome tie-dyed ones at street markets in the early 90’s. Now, they’re luxe looking and very sexy. They’re worn short or full length, with flats or heels, covered by bombers, leather coats or wools. It seems the oddest things you’d think to pair them with is happening, right now.

How to interpret for our dogs: Sexy, filmy slip-like tops have gotten more popular. One I like is from Diamonds in the Ruff Ruff. These chiffon tops are soft, feminine and feature another trend, great prints. If it’s cool, pair with a bomber or buttery moto jacket.

Blue is the Warmest Color

Denim. It never goes away. For pre-Fall, it’s embroidered, trimmed and/or bedazzled; it includes boxy jackets and slim; has tailored jeans and ragged; is dark wash or light. In other words, there’s  something for just about everyone. Personally, I love the embroidered look of this Valentino ensemble. It’s, at once, hipster cool and very sweet.

How to interpret for our dogs: Denim is easy to source for our pups. Many designers are working with it. Look for something fun, featuring embroidery or other graphics that embody the personality of your dog. I love this Orostani Couture distressed denim, graffiti-embellished dress, both edgy (with gunmetal studs) and very chic.

Pretty in Print

Here’s another trend category that is very broad. From all kinds of florals to dots to mosaics, prints rule and they all have a retro feel. I like this one from the Michael Kors Collection.

How to interpret for our dogs: Easy peasy. Prints are everywhere, from edgy to sweet, blingy to basic. I like this floral and eyelet lace harness from Italy’s It-Dogs. Its bright fuchsia pops and love the ribbon feature and oversized bow.

Watch the Lace

For pre-Fall, lace has been reimagined by designers to have a more modern feel. The preciousness of last season is gone. Think well-placed lace panels or bold-patterned lace dresses. This killer frock is my fave.

How to interpret for our dogs: Look for more intricate designs, where a lace panel or trim is featured on a more modern or edgy outfit. I like this one from Oscar Newman with sequined lace panels and trim.

There are many fun trends to choose from or mix for pre-fall and fall/winter. Which one is your favorite? Can you see your dog in any of them?
