Bark & Swagger readers, heads up! I want you to know upfront that this is a sponsored post, which means that I received a small compensation for writing it. As with any sponsored posts I do, I only accept the ones for products I love and feel will solve a problem or help make our lives easier. This post reflects my own opinion and is in my own words. And, it’s a pretty cool product, to boot (no pun intended) :-).

Did you ever see something and say, “Why didn’t I think of that?!” Some of the best inventions are the simplest and are borne out of necessity, and that is truly the case with Paws Jawz. For the many thousands of Pawz dog boot users, this invention is a welcome one. Here’s why.

For those who don’t recognize the name, Pawz dog boots are the little balloons that come in a variety of cool colors and protect our dog’s feet from the elements. We tried them on Sophie one winter, and I had a heck of a time wrestling to get them onto her feet. I know I’m not alone, because in less than six months that Paws Jawz has been in existence, inventor/owner, Josh Ricker, has had an outpouring of gratitude from happy customers.

The Paws Jawz in three sizes

How does the Paws Jawz work?

Imagine a pair of durable plastic salad tongs, but instead of scoopers, this has an oval-shaped hole. A protruding lip on one end allows you to place the Pawz boot edge so it holds there, and then you simply stretch the boot opening over the rest of the hole. Squeezing the tongs opens the boot large enough to slip easily onto your dog’s foot, and off you go! No more holding the boot open with your fingers, while you’re trying to quickly get it over your wriggling pup’s paw. The time and effort saved is well worth the reasonable price.

Paws Jawz comes in three sizes – Small, which sells for $9.99, for Pawz boot sizes T, XXS and XS; Medium, which sells for $10.99, for S and M sized boots, and Large, which sells for $11.99,  for the L and XL sizes.

This is a great stocking stuffer idea, along with some fresh, cute Pawz boots to get you or your loved one’s pup off to a good start this winter.

A dog blogging colleague, who has a great blog called Sugar the Golden Retriever, is a Pawz boots fan. She posted alternative ways to put on Pawz boots about a year ago, due to a number of emails she’d received from people having difficulty putting on the boots.  They were creative, DIY ways to help, which was great, but required some work.

It is for those people that the introduction of the Paws Jawz tool is such a lifesaver. A customer had this to say: “I feel like I have seen heaven!…Thank you for seeing this to production…with Paws Jawz, winter now seems more manageable.”

The inspiration behind it…

The story behind what inspired Josh to invent the Paws Jawz is an inspiring one for those with an entrepreneurial spirit. And, like many pet business founders, it was inspired by his dog.

During the winter of 2012, Ricker was charged with caring for the family’s senior Border Collie, Alice, while his wife and daughters went on a week-long trip. After a frustrating few days of trying to get Alice’s Pawz boots on, what originally seemed like an easy job, turned into a nightmare!  “I started to dread her walks,” Josh shared.  “I’d gotten so frustrated, that by the end of the week I had fashioned a wooden version of something similar to the Paws Jawz. While it was a complete disaster (I spent far more time working on it, than prepping for all of her walks, combined), the idea of something that could actually work, stuck with me.

“My wife and daughters found my ridiculous wooden tool when they got home.  They couldn’t decide what was more entertaining: the tool itself, or the knowledge that I could ‘whittle’ (as they called it).  After the laughter subsided, my youngest daughter, Ellie, (then 14), actually told me she was impressed, and that I should continue.”

Isn’t Alice a sweetie?

Josh applying Alice’s Pawz boots with the Paws Jawz

Fueled by the idea that he was on to something, Ricker took to Google, the oracle :-),  and learned how to do everything from apply for a patent, to get the Paws Jawz designed and manufactured. And, he learned patience (not on Google).   Josh wound up doing three redesigns to get the Paws Jawz to where it needed to be.

Where to buy:

But, that’s good news for us! The Paws Jawz works. You can purchase Paws Jawz directly from their site. I know I’ll be attempting to get Pawz boots onto Sophie again this year (she’s so temperamental!), and this is a product I’ll definitely be using.
